Social Networking site for artists!

Okay, so I've been apathetic with this blog.  It's discouraging when you feel like you are talking to yourself.

I wanted to share with whoever happens to see this that there is a very new social networking site for artists!

Artspirant  is a social networking site for artists to network, get inspired, blog, and share their portfolio.  Check it out!

Call to Artists

exhibition opportunities   This site posts exhibition opportunities if you like to make collage art or want to give it a try.  There is also a current listing for recycled art!  The deadline is in April, so get started!  Feel free to comment with any other opportunities you may have heard of or are taking part in  :)  And if you ever enter any of the call to artists and have pieces accepted, I would love to hear about it!

Call for artists

I stumbled across the Frist Center because they have an exhibition now featuring works by two artists I love, Kate Clarke and Patricia Piccinini (along with many others).  I noticed their call for artists http://fristcenter.org/submit-a-work 

I think it is a very interesting concept.  The idea is that you visit the Frist and make sketches while you are there.  Then you submit art works made from them from the current exhibition To See How Artists See.  You create art from one of the following categories:

Romanticism and Realism                                           
Impressionism
Forces in Nature
Nature and Abstraction
Modern Life
The City
Memory and Identity
Legacy of Cubism
Transition to Abstract Expressionism
Abstract Expressionism


The work is then submitted to facebook!  They have a juried show ON FACEBOOK.  How interesting is this whole concept?  I hope to see more things like it in the future :)

I stumbled across this museum.  It also has a society.  Just missed a call to artist! (Feb 15)  But even if this is not your choice of medium, it is still interesting to browse the collections.  Check it out:

Marathon

I am a BFA student graduating in May.  For senior seminar, we have to complete forty projects before Spring Break!  Any medium, but size restriction to no bigger than can fit in two hands.  This project is meant to generate work without too much thought involved, to make you experiment outside your comfort zone, and to make you reassess your idea of a finished piece.  I'm torn between loving and hating this project!  The idea is that if every piece is successful, then you didn't take enough risks.  I like the thought of letting go but it is much harder to do than I thought it would be!  I'll post photos as I go along and share my painful process!

The maiden voyage

When faced with your first post, it can be a daunting experience.  I was given the advice once that if you don't have something to say, then don't post.  But I find that a challenge to find an eloquent way to say nothing at all!  Can a blank mind be like a blank canvas?
